    Cabriolet head washers retrofit

    Hi all.

I'm in the process of fitting the headwashers on my 1997 Cabriolet.

Got the noozles from an S2 coupè 3B
Got the complete related (headlights etc) loom from the same S2.
    Got the pump

Now firstly I'm complete helpless with electrics and so I thougt about a plain and quick solution.

Connect the pump in positive "+" tandem with the one for the windscreen and use a relay to give the go from the ground "-" cable from headlights so that I can have the headwashers to work only when lights are on I have a car elctrician to help me with this.

Then thoug I thougt about the headwashers pump behaviuor in the RS2 (and S2) when you pull the stalk you have the pump on for three four seconds then it turns off even if you keep pulling the stalk, so, if I'm doing the solutions above I would not have this "watersaving" facility.

    Now the question is:

Can I somehow dig out the part of the loom dedicated to the washers and get it on the car to get the system to work OEM style?

There's the realy position for them washers wich it's empty right now.
Anyone got the schematic for the headwashers on S2/Cabriolet chassis?

Any chance the loom in the Cabbie has the washers cables and they're simply not connected?
Or that the cabling exists in the relay board but it's not complete on the engine bay part?

Any how I can use the first custom solution and having somehow the three/four seconds working pump with some particular relay?

Thanks for any help and suggestion in advance.

im really not into wiring, so i will propose smething else (what i did). it is very simple and it works better then the original

btw.: you need a washer bottle too...

take a stalk from an urs4/urs6 that has the "intensive" button on it, take a normal 4 pin relay, and from there it is childs play to wire it up.

if you dont like the intensive button, then take a stalk from an avant, and use the forward position the avant uses for the rear wiper to do the same thing as above.

this two solutions are better than the original, because you can always decide when to wash the headlights. many people removed the headlight washing because they were anoyed by it, as it sprays all over the hood and windshield too.

Stefano - I have schematics here for 1997 Cabrio... will check to see if the wiring is significantly different from S2/RS2 but I very much doubt it. Give me a day or two to look into it... jugglling some other jobs here as always

nice find by skull though - never seen that 'intensive' stalk before - would be cool for 'int'ercooler spray mod on an S2/RS2 !!!

                Thanks Paul.

Yes the solutions from Skul are (as usual) very helpy!

I just wonder for the records.....
How the headwasher pump is feed with power for a short period of time (1/2 seconds)?

Is it a special "step/bystep" relay?
                If yes which one?

yes it is a special relay, that cuts off the power after a sec. but if you have a separate button you dont need it, the pump works just for the time you have the button or switch pressed.

                    Paul and Skull......

In your opinion, how many chances do I have that the loom for the headwasher it's already in the car?

Are them zero as I presume?

Or there's a possibility that I will find the plug for the secon pump nearby the windscreen one?
If I have all that luck I will just have to put everything in connect the pump and stick that special relay that I already have in his place and chop chop....

I have been searching ebay for one for the last 6 months for exactly that purpose.

Bought several different A6/URS6/S6 versions but none with the intensive button

@Skull - any idea on the part number for your stalk?

                      Cheers n

                          Anyway....

I tried my chances for them stalks but no luck....

But having a complete RS2 relays plate in my "cave" I got this head washer relay ready to use.
                          Sorry for the quality....

I'm just wondering if my idea of connections it's correct or not, can you guys help me out?

                          #31 ground
                          #S signal from stalk
                          #56 positive from headlights/ligths
                          #30 positive contnuos 12 V
                          #P pump/motor

This relay should give me the few seconds burst of water.

I'm thinking on getting the "S" signal by bridging the positive of the windscreen pump which it's beside the headwashers pump so very handy.
                          Is it gonna work?
Or do I need to take the signal from the stalk?

                          Connections for:
                          Ground/continuos 12 V/ headlights on 12 V

Should'nt be hard to find near that area.....

Finally by reading somewhere a post by S2Centralnet I remind that the original headwasher loom it's not fused?
So I will put one for protection while I'm there.

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Very much doubt you will have the loom already there as Skull says and yes - the headlamp washer pump on S2/RS2 is unfused... so that would be a good addition... my suggestion would be to piggyback the live feed from the fusebox at somewhere like 'M30ac' though so you are niceley protected by a fuse location (S21) that already exists.
