just tried to start my new S2 and it wont turn over at all, all lights are ok and battery is fine just when i turn the key nothing happens, no inclination of it starting at all. im thinking it could be the immobiliser but not sure why it would just go potty on me now seeing as ive had the car started yesterday and numerous times. now i cannot get anything to turn.

Do any lights come on in the dash when you turn the key to the "On" position?
The culprit is very likely the electrical portion of the ignition switch. However, seeing as the car is new to you, unless you have installed a new battery, I would suspect a near-to-dead battery, one that shows voltage but really has very few amps worth of power to contribute to the cause.

yes there are lights on in the dash but when you turn the key to start the battery light goes out but comes back on as soon as you let the key go i have just swapped batts over with my coupe and they are both brand new bosch and both are ok. So it could be the switch does that mean i need a new one??
Sounds like starter motor solenoid - or that dippy non-insulated wire linking it to the main body of starter motor...
You need to get a 12V meter in there to see if the red/black wire onto solenoid is getting energised when you turn key to 'crank' position. If there are no volts getting there it will likely be a security thing... in which case send me a PM to discuss less publically for some pointers !!!

Here is a photo of an AAN starter motor for hints.
Note: A failed ignition switch can leave the starter engaged AFTER the engine has started, causing it to burn out and never work again. )Replace the switch and then the starter).
