Has anyone had any success running a il5 on a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder rev gauge and having them modded to work?

I am currently driving a 1988/89 F reg Audi 90 with the 2.2 i5 kv unit.
I had a dud speedo and mile counter and set about finding a replacement binnacle.
The breaker had one but thought it came from a v6 coupe though was unsure.
Well it all works including all gauges and rev counter and seems to operate accurately, I have no way of being sure of the binnacles' origin or as to its accuracy and the breaker seemed to think it would make no difference ( and he really knows his old Audis ).
I appreciate this is not accurate information but thats how it is for me and I hope this is helpful.
