    Rev Counter Needle not stable

    Evening All,
    Any suggestions?
Holding a constant(ish) 80 on motorway, after a few mins, the needle starts moving between 3000 and 4000rpm. No other apparent symptoms.
Is this a common one, or am I the only one to have this problem?
    Thanks.
    Tony.

Gearbox sender? For the rev counter? Surely it would be on the flywheel, or cam pulley? The speedo reading is constant, BTW.

That's the strange part about it - at all other speeds up to 80 the needle is constant.
Not been on an Autobahn, so can't tell if it happens at 150mph

Interested to find out what this could be, on one trip last year the rev needle dropped to 0 and shot back up immediately while cruising on the motorway. It did it twice within 10 mins but hasn't happened again.
