RS2 running lights in fog lights

    Hi there,

I've tried searching the forum before posting this thread but haven't found anything.
    I've seen this picture:
    IMG_0109.PNG

I'd like to make my running lights works as pictured but can't figure out how to do it.
Stock running lights in main headlights have a 3 wire connector but the ones in fog lights have just 2 wires.
I've tried the most obvious, splicing stock wires and try different combination of pairs but none of them work.

    Anyone can help?

    Thanks in advance

you're better off just feeding a separate switch. either that, or take the fog switch apart, and you'll see that the third wire is there, so that it recieves two positive feeds, i.e, so the fogs only come on when the main lights are on. just re-direct that wire to an ignition-live.

Not sure entirely of your setup, but it should be one of the two!

Do you have parking lights? Same as what lights the side of the RS2 lights?

This is the same wiring, so when parking lights are on, so are the extra bulb in the fog lights.

Just some finishing touches to do now

Hey Dan (guess that's your name)
Very nice car and awesome pictures.

My car is an RS2 but I'm not sure what the parking lights are.

Look on my thread on the link in
My sig, I've got them lit

Basically, I used scotch-locks to splice the two wires going to the side lights on the outermost edge of the headlights. There are only 2 wires going to this light (it's a cap less 501). However, I spliced this in the loom BEFORE the headlight as this avoids running wires out the headlight and risking water ingress. The two wires were run down to the fog light area and female spades fitted. These were connected to either side of the bulb holder for the running light within the fog assembly. It does not matter which way round. Do the same for each side. I removed the bulbs from the headlight as they always looked carp to me!

Thinking about it, you can see in my sig picture too

              Hi Mike,
Problem is side lights on the outermost edge of my headlights have 3 wires.
I'll take a picture because maybe we're not talking about the same light to get electricity from.

              Thanks for your help!

I did this on my last RS2. I had the lights hooked up to the sidlights (not the dipped beam).

The bulb in the fogs needs 2 connections: Ground, and 12v.
You can ground at any appropriate point (although finding where the rest of the lights are grounded might be asvisable).
Then you need the switched 12v that comes from the sidelight relay. You should be able to find this on the connector to the sidlight cluster. use a multimeter to fins which wire goes to 12v (14v if the engine is on) when you flick the sidelight stalk up a notch.

Suggests that the sidelights are supplied with grey wires. This document is for generig Audi 80 I think, but I imagine it would be the same for RS2?

This is my headlight and as you can see side lights or parking lights or whatever name have 3 wires whilst same light in porsche fog have just 2 pins.
As you can see I have dubbed the original wires and tried all combinations of 2 but none of them have worked.

This makes sense but I guess the same wire running 12v when I flick the stalk has to reach the bulb and should be one of those I have spliced, isn't it?

I might be wrong here but Is that 3-pin plug not just for the headlight motor? - up and down? I didn't think it was anything to do with the sidelight in the headlights.

Ups! You're probably right... that would explain everything.

Then I have to pay attention to the other plug and I guess I will find the grey wire there.

                            What a mistake!!!

Maddagent put me on the right path. Thanks a lot!
I was completely mistaken thinking the small plug on the outer edge of the headlight was for the running lights.
Jus spliced 2 wires in the round connector with 4 pins and that's it. Working like a charm!

Will post a picture with all the lights working tonight.
