I am currently looking for the best place to buy a Pre cat lambda probe for my mums VW Polo 1.4 16V. it is X reg and the lambda is a 5 wire type.

I see there is 4 wire type on ebay. Will they work?
Whats the 5th wire for?

There is also a £60 to 90 difference in price.

Any suggestions where to get one at a reasonable price.

I guess if it has five wires it may need them all? I'd look for a direct replacement rather than a generic option. If the lambda isn't correct you could end up spending more on fuel than the sensor cost in no time. Never mind running issues if it's the wrong one.

i think the 5 wire one your talking about is the factory wideband o2...basically the same sensor most aftermarkets wideband systems use as well
