My lamps have lows but no working highs...

Encountered a problem with the coupe the other day. I turned the high beams on, they flickered a bit for a sec or two (not full brightness either), then turned on full just fine. I tried to turn them on again later that evening and the lamps gave no response at all. The fuses were fine as well. I didn't think to check the bulbs as I thought that was not possible, however I suppose it is if they short circuited. Anyway I need some thoughts on the cause

    Cheers
    -Jon

I'm quite positive it's the stalk switch.

    Do those relays folks!

Re seat the relays in the fuse box.

I agree with Porkkis, probably just the lighting stalk.

Are you running high wattage bulbs jon?

If so then you have cooked your stalk. I did it once and had to get a spare from a coupe I had broken. it's the same as the Audi 80/90 ( 4000? in the states?)

I am just running some regular Philips bulbs.

I will try the relay. Is there anyway to check if the stalk is bad without replacing it? Thanks!

Take out the steering column top cover and measure with a DMM the output wires. IIRC yellow one is for lows and red for mains. Can remember wrong and US models might have totally different... everything!

And if you have an autocheck system check the front bulb control relay in the indash relay plate. Can't remember the number but it's 281 or something, maybe, It has 4 larger pins numbered 56 something and two smaller ones 31 and K.

And forget about this message as the control applies only to the lows, not mains.
