gasoline and temp. gauge calculation issue

    Hi All,

another issue of mine is, that I had to change the dashboard with one from "competition" because of the 4 cyl engine that I've installed on the car. However because of this change I have some weird malfunction on two gauges - gasoline and temp.

Now the temp. gauge stays to the very left, as if it is unplugged. The easy solution for that would be to simply change the temp. sensor with one from competition (if it fits the 1.8t engine)

The second issue is that the gasoline level gauge, shows different levels that are far from precise and I cannot be sure how much gas. I have in the tank.
" it is well known that the 5 cyl. audi have 70 liters tank and perhaps the others have smaller tank hence different leveling sensor"

    So the questions:
1 - is it normal for the water temp. gauge to stay to the very left ?
2 - does it use reads different levels fro the sensors ?
3 - does it matter what the sensor if for 5 cyl engine and the others ?
4 - does the fuel level gauge reads differently, depending on the tank and car ?

    Cheers !!!

    1. No
    2. The temperature sensor for the water temperature gauge is part of what's known as the MFTS which is screwed into the water manifold collecting water from the cylinder head to the radiator top hose. The ECU water temperature sensor is a seperate sensor screwed into the back of the engine block
    4. There's a guide to calibrating the fuel gauge under "Electrical systems" on this site:
