Brake light warning=engine stays running..

Hi Fellas,
RS2 has developed a new one... I get a bremse lickt warning usually after hard acceleration (happens alot) but if it stays on when i come to switch off and as normal foot on brakes because the average handbrake performace I can turn the ignition key and pull it out and the engine is still running! then if I take my foot off the brakes the engine stops!

Any ideas before I rip into it?

I suggest you check your brake light bulbs. You may find one of them has a loose filament that's shorting over inside the bulb to the second sidelight filament feeding 12 volts back as you've decribed when your foot is on the brake pedal.

ive heard of engine managment systems retaining voltage, but only aftermarket stuff!

try turning the headlights or heated rear screen on when the engine wont turn off, this will elimenate a voltage fault

I had the same problem with my work van and it was traced back to the rear brakelights although mine was a problem with the towbar wiring shorting.
