    New Member with Electrical Issues

    Hi Guys and Gals,

I am new and from South Africa, got a silver 95 Cabriolet 2.6e. Browsed around on the Audi World Forum and they suggested I'd rather join the S2 forum. Glad I did though.

I have got a little electrical issue, my dash and rear number plate lights stay on permanently, even with the key out of the ignition. Now the previous owner just simply removed the fuse so there is no circuit, but as soon as you refit the fuse the lights stay on permanently. Now am I in the right direction thinking its the stalk that oxidised? Cant find any problems on the wiring itself.

I also like to find out my car has got one normal headlight and 1 projector lamp, where can I purchase a new projector headlight or a set of aftermarket headlights that will ship out to South Africa?

Any advice will be appreciated, thanks in advance...

    Cheers

Check the brown T10 & T5 connectors at the auxillary relay panel, that is where both of those circuits connect to the main dash wiring loom

        Error404

        Hi Error404,

Thanks for the reply, this is my first Audi so I'm a bit new with this. What is the T10 and T5 connectors? What should I be looking for? Is this in the fuse box? I took some time and cleaned out the fuse box with electrical contact cleaner fuse by fuse and relay by relay. I also took out the instrument cluster and cleaned that out as well. What should I look for with the T10 and T5 connector? Where is this Aux relay panel? Mine is a right hand drive model.

As for the headlights, any idea who does aftermarket or projector?

        Thanks for the welcome Caterpillar.

        Cheers

The aux relay panel is underneath the drivers side of the dash on the right hand side of the steering column.
Remove the drivers side parcel shelf. The T10 & T5 connectors are clipped together - there are several sets of them in different colours - black, yellow, brown, green, blue etc.
The ones you want to look out for are brown - these have the connection in for the number plate light & interior courtesy lights

          They look like this:

If you look in the left of the picture you can see part of the brown ones

            Error404

            Hi Error404,

Aaah I saw this under the dash when I removed the instrument cluster, what should I look for? Damaged wires or should I just clean them off with contact cleaner and see what happens?

Cheers & thanks for the help so far.

I'm not sure what to look for but both circuits share these connectors as well as the fuse.
Have you looked at the wiring diagrams?

                    Error404

                    Sorry,

Quick question, I see theres a purple female plug with 4 wires running into it, under the aux relay panel, which is unplugged, cant seem to find a matching male under there, any idea as to what it could be for?

                    Thanks

I had an issue with the number plate lights on my 2.6 coupe. Fuse for them removed, start engine, dash lights come on with ignition.
Fit fuse, start car, turn lights on, turn of ignition the engine stays running, turn lights out the engine stops.
My fault was the wires for the glovebox light had melted through the loom. I had to unwrap the wiring loom all the way from the light to the fuse box.
Your fault is similar so i would check the wires for the glovebox.
