It reminds me about a friend of mine, who at the age of 17 had a Mk3 Escort. You know the sort. Red 1.3L with XR3 bodykit, cloverleaf alloys, truck tailpipe.
Anyway, he had 4 Rally Giants and a couple of Cibie Super Oscars on the front of this car, with 130W bulbs. I’m not sure what alternator he had.
Man, was it ever bright! But when he had to switch to low beam, you couldn’t see for ****. It was like his standard headlights were candle powered.
I rarely use main beam. But the standard S2 headlights are crap. I’m sure HIDs would be money well spent.

Think I will wait for phase 4 my current HID's are pretty bright anyway. Bi Xenons would be very cool though.

IIRC they changed the rules on HID lamps. Originally they had to have headlamp washers and then they changed to needing self levelling as well.

I'm concerned then about my HID kit wot I just installed this afternoon as the headlamp aim is awfully high: I got flashed by 5 oncoming cars in the space of 10mins this evening, and even with the headlamp aim adjuster on level 3 it still seems high. Have I cacked up the install? Is there a way I can adjust the aim?

Dan, I needed to have the headlamp aim set after fitting the HIDs so I wouldnt worry. Took the mot garage not even 5 mins.

Martyn, can I upgrade from my kit to the extreme version?

                  Hi Sal,

yes mate, no trouble at all!

Dan, adjust your headlamps for sure, but.... make sure the bulbs you fitted are installed properly first! if they are not seated correctly then they could be throwing the light too high. The only other problem that can cause a higher beam is if the focal point of the HID arc is in a different position to where it should be. Bottom line, check the bulbs are seated correctly, then get them adjusted

They look impressive Martyn. I reckon I'll be upgrading my standard kit too.

Sweet - I'm assuming this is an optical upgrade and not an electrical one...

I've got an ellipsoid O/S headlight and an original N/S, so I can see the difference between the two. I just got to get the N/S sorted sometime, when I can afford it.

Having driven out of town last night in the dark with bad weather to boot, I realised just how bad my lights actually are.
The fact that so many cars are fitted with better lighting is probably as much to blame as poor lighting on my own car, as eyes are trying to adapt from the bright lights back to the darkness and it is all too much. But if you can't beat them you have to join them .
Will your lights also be suitable for a ur (Iactually have a 90q but think lights are the same)? If so I would definitely be interested in a set

Tom, have you noticed that you have many times better full beams than the newer ones?
