Avant 3rd Brakelinght - any interest

Hi all,

This has been a project of mine for a while now but I think I have something that looks right, at last..... see pics

The light unit is from an S6 but there are many options that will work, I chose this one because it is LED. It is fixed to the rear screen trim with small metal straps. I have 95% window tinting film to obscure the inside of the cover to give the factory look, not yet fitted in these pics. When viewed thru the rear view mirror it is very unobtrusive...

The trickiest part was to get the shape of the cover. I made several moulds and used lots of filler to get this shape, there is still a bit of fetteling to do (especially where it meets the screen trim) but it fits the glass perfect and is as small as possible. The wiring is straight forward, from just before the auto check relay above the battery, up the rear side pillar and thru the cable tube from body to tailgate...

My next move is to either just modify the one you see or modify the mould so I can run as many as needed. So, if enough people are interested I will update the mould...

I would imagine so, as long as the angle of the rear glass is similar it should work !

If your car is B5 then you should be able to get a rear screen trim with the brake light built in, it was available for the B5 avant !

Hi,

Can folks please let me know what they would like me to supply.

The cover only would be £20 exc postage. If you need me to provide the light also then that will be at cost, my source is eBay, can be £15-20 for the light fitting.

The cover will come finished in matt black as in the photographs, I can also include the window tint film for you to cut to size. For the wiring I found a post on the forum that covered it very well, no auto heck problems.

Please remember, the cover and the light unit will need to remove the rear screen trim to fit the light and drill the holes, (4 screws for the cover, 2 for the light itself) Also wiring in to the loom near the battery, no drilling required but you will need to remove the pillar side trim and route the wires (power & earth) thru the cable grommet between the body and tailgate. None of this is a difficult job, would expect to complete it in about 1 hour, just dont want to imply plug and play.... its not.

I have located 2 of the donor light fittings, and will continue to source the others necessary. The cost is slightly variable so to be fair, I will even out te cost over the number required, so that everyone pays the same...
