    RS2 keyfob/alarm hassle

Bought my RS2 last week, & have 2 remote keyfobs, neither work (batteries?)
HAve tried replacing batteries in one, but still no joy.
Assuming that the batteries were dead for a while prior to purchase, do the fobs need to be resynched(sp?) or reset?
Using the key to lock & unlock in the dark is fast becoming a real pain.

    Darren.

Usually you have to hold down button for 30-60s to reset on most systems. Worth a try

OK, i have tried the sequence in the handbook, but still no joy.
The central locking works fine with the key in the lock, but not with the remote blipper.
Are there any fuses/relays worth pulling or any electrical contacts worth cleaning?.

Derren, are you saying the remotes are seperate to the key? can you post a picture of the remotes? the RS factory remote locking was on a black button built into the cars main key. Its possible you have an after market or Audi Acc. unit on there?

I have just gone through the same problem on my S4....very annoying

Audi( ) solved mine by eventually removing the radio...... When i removed the key from my ignition, it triggered a micro switch (s contact switch) which allowed the key to transmit its signal and lock/alarm the car.

When someone rewired my radio in they picked up an incorrect feed. This resulted in disabling the micro switch;basically the car thought the key was still in the ignition and blocked the signal from the key/remote....

Whether the S/RS works in the same way,i'm not sure. I had an aftermarket Clifford on my RS - never again

            HTH a little....

No, the button is built in to the original Audi key, & has a little red led that lights up when pressed.

Indeed I have. I assume it's the IR locking system like I have on my avant? The procedure in the manual is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. It's the same as the procedure now given in the workshop computer system so even dealers won't have a chance.

I've just dug out the current flow binders and found the original procedure from the workshop manual:

Programming control unit with key codes (transmitter codes)

The key codes are programmed into the control unit for the central locking system at the factory. Reprogramming is only necessary in exceptional cases.

If certain repairs are performed on the central locking system, if the battery is disconnected for a long time, or if lost keys are replaced or additional keys provided, it is necessary to programme the new transmitter codes into the memory of the control unit. The memory will store the codes for up to four car keys.

To programme the codes into the memory, proceed as follows:
                      • Insert any key into the igntion and switch on.
                      • Lock the car by turning one of the other keys in the lock on the driver's or front passenger's door. Withdraw the key. (It is best to do this with the key whose code you want to programme into memory).
                      • Point the key whose code is to be programmed at the infra-red sensor and press the transmitter button briefly once, or up to four times. Pressing once will programme memory position No. 1, pressing twice will programme position No. 2, and so on. Press the button at intervals of at least one second, but note that the sequence of up to four signals must be completed within five seconds. The anti-theft alarm will sound the horn briefly after each signal to confirm proper reception.
                      • Wait for 5 seconds after the last signal and then press the transmitter button again. This will unlock the car and complete the programming sequence.

The programming sequence must be completed within 30 seconds after locking the car with the key (step 2). otherwise the programming procedure must be restarted by locking one of the front doors again.

                      Note
The procedure described above must be carried out for each key. If it is not known which of the memory positions are vacant, for example when replacing a key, it is best to programme the codes of all the keys into memory.
