    Window blues!

Evening, I now have (rhd avant) rear o/s drivers window stopped completely and n/s front passengers window becoming intermittent. Drivers and rear n/s windows have not ever had a problem. I had a read and pulled the thermal fuse and double relay. Opened them up and both look well. I only have one thermal fuse under the drivers dash. As this problem is common I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the mixed situation I have with these windows?

Yeah I had looked at that and then found mine was different! Is it common for some to continue to work while one fails complete and another becones intermittent? My relay is a 287 and I have a green 30 a can fuse. My drivers window hasnt failed to work uring all this.

When I had a relay problem, it would be all the windows + sunroof (on a coupe). Yours might be the switch or dodgy wiring? Jas11n had a guide on here I think

I've just replaced 2 window switches on my car, here's something to try:
If your windows go down just fine but won't go up, then you can use the comfort window closing by locking your car with the key and keeping the key turned towards the closed position. After 2 secs the windows should close and if they close properly, it's almost certainly the switches.

For those with a bit of electric background:
I've measured both the resistance and the volt output of the failing switches. The resistance wasn't very high, but it was more then enough to cause a 10,5 volt drop over the switch, meaning that the window motor only got 2 volt. Burned contacts on the micro switches most probably and they are known not to like the exposure to rain that they get when the door is opened when it's raining.
