    Headlights - MOT Failure

OK guys, bit of advice needed for my diesel dog.

I put it in for its MOT the other day and it failed on a pile of stuff that is synonymous with neglect (not mine, but the previous owner) but having worked my way through these (top mounts, wishbones, etc...) I have now drawn a blank on what to do with the headlights.

The MOT list points to incorrect bean image, and that it dazzles other road users. How do I go about correcting this? these arent the lights that came with the car, they are the Cabriolet lights that I put in having taken the stock B4 estate ones out.

    Any advice welcome

Is the bulb in the right way round, and is it tight in its holder, because that will distort the pattern

It means you have LHD lights on LHD car ( ___/ ___/ beam instead of \___ \___ ) ? Ellipsoid or non-ellipsoid lights?

non ellipsoid lights, I think the lights are UK ones from what I can tell - they came of Shaun's old 80 Saloon.

I will check the bulb positions though, I thought they could only go in one way...

The coating on the lenses has probably started to fail.

Either put the old lights in for the mot and swap back or buy some more headlights

I had the same problem on a final edition cabriolet once.

Turned out that the bulb was not seated properly.

yeah, Sleeper_Avants one - must be something with the bulbs and that, will get out there tomorrow and have a proper nose around and see if I can sort it.

Might find a local garage that does MOT testing, chuck them a tenner and get an alignment done properly.

thanks for all feedback guys, stuff to look into

probably the reflectors have broken down which is very common.

Take the glass off and check. Just do not touch the silver chrome finish as it falls off easily.
