Cheers fellas, gotta take it out to replace bulbs and temp lcd so another job for the list, in the meantime at least the mileage won't increase

Speedo works fine but mileage no longer clocks up which ain't such a bad thing I suppose, are they mechanical type things for the mileage cable or something

try to resolder the contacts of the motor on the back of the cluster, i rescued many clusters this way...

I had odometer issue with my S2 cluster. Gear was fine, motor was dead. I replaced it with motor from C4 100. This applies to C4 100/S4 too, they are very similar to B4 clusters from inside.

Most often it's tiny yellow gear inside odometer. Some of it's teeth breaks off and odometer stops. Also it can be dead motor.

G22/G68 Vehicle Speed Sensor info

The Speedometer and the odometer both get their inputs via a signal from the G22 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). (This might be the G68 in an S2). You might have a broken trace on the instrument cluster PCB or it might be a physical problem (gears) on the odometer if it isn't a digital odometer.
