    Air Bag Warning Light

    Hi People

Need some help, removed the air bag and steering wheel to get at the cluster on my RS2 to replace the LED and some bulbs, when put back together the air bag light won't go out, took it back off (incase I had put the connector to the bag not on properly) checked OK, reconnected but still the air bag light is on any advice, help would be appreciated.

Amerinds it takes a while before the error code of the airbag light goes out. You may find that if you drive a bit it goes off after a while.

Otherwise you just need a code eraser and you are done

I assume you disconnected the battery before taking the bag off?

        I assume he did'nt...

Also I suppose he did check the leds to be sure that they worked by switching the keys in on position...... with the airbag disconnected...
That will switch on the warning airbag light.

To clear the airbag warning light now needs a VAG.COM or a code eraser it would not switch off otherwise and it's not a matter related to time, it will stay on for years.

        P.S.
There's no need to take the steering wheel out to get the cluster in your hands, it's doable with steering wheel on situ.

Guilty as charged, I dont have a VAG.COM but would one of these do http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1509773644...84.m1423.l2649 in the family we have 2 x Mk4 Golfs and a Porsche 944 so it would be used if not for anything else but to delete the service light.

Brave man taking airbag off with battery still connected. ! Thatll be the problem then it'll log the fault until cleared with vcds. You can buy a handheld reader and 2x2 cable for roughly 30 quid. It's basic but will work with you car and they power from one port which makes it quick and simple to operate.

I had the spanner to disconnect the battery but took a phone call in the house came back out and just as I removed the air bag I remembered I hadn't disconnected the battery, I took the leads off the battery and continued, the rest is history

All's well that ends well, ECU reader arrived as did the lead, 5 min later no air bag light, funny how putting a light out gives so much pleasure
