    Millage Correction, Audi C4

Have changed the instrument panel in my Audi A6 C4 because of installing autocheck/computer, but the "new" on have a way higher odometer reading.

How can I correct this? I have originale VagCom but off course there is no option for this.
I`ve also tried with a cheap Ebay-thingy, but with that I could only reed the code of the instrument or something.

Anyone know of a device, kabel, software or something that WORKS?

    Friendly Regards

    Edit: fixed some bad english

Mileage (as in fuel useage rate ( L/100 km or miles per gallon)) can be calibrated wth the trip computer dip switches:

I think that you need to do it old style : dismandle the cluster , remove the chip tat stores the mileage , read it modify the content , write it and put the cluster back toghether .

AND yes the C4 doesn't have the wire between the cluster and diagnostic plug.

            So dave,

Do you flick them into their respective position and that reduces the mileage by 15% once? Im unsure of how it works.

I believe these switches are only for correcting the fuel usage figures

Re-reading the original post, I am not clear about what the original poster wants to do. The info that I provided is a means to calibrate the fuel useage, e.g. L/100 km or miles/gal, read-out on the trip computer so that it is closer to reality.

If the original poster was enquiring about modifying the odometer readout, a) I know nothing and b) that would be illegal.

Cavalier? As in off the cuff, flipant, offhand, indifferent, casual, dismissive, insouciant, unconcerned, supercilious, patronizing, condescending, disdainful, scornful, contemptuous, informalcouldn't-care-less, devil-may-care?

                    I don't think so.

However, that said, I've edited my post to read:

I think the OP has a car with xxx miles on it,

He has had to change the clocks (for some other reason) and it now shows a mileage of xxx + y

He therefore wants it to read the original mileage rather than fiddle it.

PS it is not illegal to tamper with the mileage on a car, but if you do, it is illegal to sell it without declaring it. (in the UK)

If you are correct in your interpretation, then he should have tranfered good used "clocks" or "clock" faces or trip computer to his original instrument cluster circuit board so the original odometer stayed in place. (In my opinion)

And what to do if the trip odometer is not working? Not 100%offtopic but:does anyone managed to repair this problem? It is s2 aby and odo is not with display like in the s6 c4.

Okey, for some reason I was misunderstood in my first post.
Because I wanted tripcomputer in my A6 C4, I needed to change the hole intrumentpanel to a intrumentpanel which had this from before.
I`m NOT asking for how to calibrate the fuel useage.

The new instrumentpanel has a way higher milage (380.000km) than my cars originale milage (280.000).
Therefore I want to alter my milage on the new intrumentpanel so it can show the correct milage, and not 100.000km more!

I have done this job on the B4 and B3`s (S2, 80 and 90 20v Coupe) but in theese cars I can just switch over the tripcomputer/autocheck-module and replace the minicheck-module because the instrumentpanels are the same.

On C4, the instruments are not the same, and you therefore have to change the COMPLETE instrumentpanel in order to get tripcomputer/Autocheck.

Regarding tha it is not allowed to change the milage on a instrument: both yes and no.
Yes: To tamper with the milage in order to sell the car at a higher price/trick the insurance.
No: To correct the milage so it can show how far the car ACTUALLY have been driven.

                              Back to my original question;

I know that it is possible to alter the milage through using a computer and a wire on the C4 A6. It has been done before! The A6/S6 instrument panel is a bit different than the 100/S4 so it should be able to communicate with the right device.
I`ve tried two cheap ebay cabels, and VagCom does not do this.

Anyone have tryed doing this on their C4 (1995-1997) before
