RE: Airbag light staying on and P/N for bulbs with red condoms...

Hi all, I found your forum today while searching for information on UN4 clusters - as I've been doing some work on the UN4 in my '94 90CS. It seems they were more common across the pond than here...as very few 90s and Cabriolets here in the US have them.

Either way, the airbag light will come on after changing the bulb because the airbag system detects a fault since the bulb was changed/removed. You can easily clear the code with a VAG-COM by scanning the airbag controller and clearing the fault codes.

Here in the US late '94-'98 B4 style clusters all used the red-condomed bulbs to take the orange clusters and make them red - don't know if the models shipped elsewhere in the world are like this, but the p/n for the bulbs is: 893 919 040 C. That part number doesn't seem to come up in Euro ETKA, but does show up in US ETKA for B4s.

      Cheers,
      Ryan

PS - also Audi here also only stocks 1.1W orange based bulbs and 2W green based bulbs. The red-condomed ones are 1.1W orange base - although they cost about 2-3 times the price of a standard (non-red condomed) orange base bulb.
