fuel gauge and trip computer

i think that my fuel guage is slightly out and am going on a long trip tonight
normally i just fill it up when the fuel light comes on
My handbook is storage at the mo so was wondering if some one can let me know generally how much fuel / miles there is left in the tank when the fuel light comes on and when the E flashes.

I would always get nervous when the light came on, but as soon as E flashed up I would head for the nearest petrol station.
I ran out once because I thought I could get 7 miles to work and then home again. I only got half way home before it ran out!

I tend to fill up with around 55 litres after the light comes on which means there "should" be 6 litres left in reserve with the Avant tank. I think the handbook says 8 litres ?

The gauge & trip computer accuracy vary as they can both be calibrated. I had to adjust both on my RS2, whereas both were aligned to the fuel light on my previous S2 Avant.

No calibration shoud have any effect on the autocheck fuel light!
