Totally agree! I tried and my ocd kicked in, overloaded and I settled with near enough good enough in the end. Spiral wrap did help a lot though and makes it a little more tidy and easier to go back if you missed something out.

I think Fatty was pointing with the wrong finger.

Could not agree more to all of the above statements!!!!

Spent 12 hours on my back in the drivers footwell on Saturday and have got at least another day of it all day tomorrow. I have been replacing the cloth tape on each and every loom as mine has all gone dry and fell off!!!

and hopefully I will be able to re lay the looms around the footwell in some sort of order to make them as neat as I possibly can so that you don't need 8 hands to fit the panel back under the dashboard and have it looking like its bursting at the seems trying to spill wiring out from every join on the dash.....

Ugh what a nighmare, glad i'm not the only one that doesn't like going under the steering wheel!

It's always further complicated by some previous alarm/immobiliser installations that's hacked into a load of cables

Fatty's looks like heaven compared to mine, to add to the mess most of my cloth tape has fallen off, I've had several goes at it but made no significant improvement.

This makes me feel better - at least OEM is supposed to be a pig's ear

I'm not going to lie, I have considered depinning every connector and cutting the looms to the right size so it fits nice and neat.
Not going to though, I'm not that mental
And I thought someone had been in there and ****ed it up for me! It is normal after all.

Just put the lower cover back on and try to forget it. I know what you mean about having an OCD attack on it though!

    Cheers,

    Steve

It's not only the RHD cars you guys. The LHD ones are just as bad.
Audi would have done better to copy what BMW did for example. I'm not into wiring looms at all but the BMW ones I've seen of some friends cars are much neater and easier if you like.

I would consider your fairly sane for doing that, you could make a far better job of it with some thought.

I dread taking the cover off from under the steering column as you know what is going to confront you!

It's a disgrace but common to VAG. The RHD market gets shafted all the time.
The T4 has a wiring harness that takes everything from the ECU in the passenger side engine bay ACROSS THE TOP OF THE ENGINE and on to the clocks, drive by wire throttle and stalks etc. The insulation gets rubbed off the cables over time and if water gets in to the conduit that covers them all hell brakes loose.

Yep, been there too and completely agree with you. I would like to shake a hand to that genius who thought it's a great idea to create worst wire arrangement ever.
