Replacing early style dash switch bulbs.

I tried to remove and replace a bulb using this guide:

I slowly teased the bulb up using a pair of pliers but it seemed reluctant to come free.
Carefully pulling a little more and... I pulled out the bulb leaving its wire terminals inside the switch body.

Are there two versions of filament bulb holders in the early style switches? Has anyone seen this before? I might dismantle a spare switch as I suspect I needed to solder in a replacement bulb.

    Thanks.

I've just dismantled the troublesome switch and that the bulb leads are each inserted into very thin tubes (~1mm diameter) which are soldered to switch connector terminals. The thing is, the damn tubes are are crimped to hold the bulb leads.

The good news is the bulb leads are very thin which makes it possible to fit a replacement bulb.

So much for following the factory repair guide.

Presume it is a Type A switch then.

I don't think so, type A is LED isn't it? It's an ABS switch so only available as type B AFAIK.
