When should the headlamp washers work?

n00b question, I know, but under what circumstances should the headlamp washers come on?

I can't see a stalk function so I always assumed it was something like they would operate when the windscreen washers were operated and the headlights were on, but mine never have

They should indeed come on when lights are on and you pull the stalk towards you for window wash function... if they are't then a bit of fault finding is required... could be the stalk itself but more likely the pump for light washers - it is separate from windows. Be careful as there are some unfused connections in this circuit. Have a look at this diagram - note that Relay #4 is specifically for the headlight washers - and note that unfused red wire on track 166 !

        Thanks for that.

I'll start with the relay and take it from there.

I knew I'd read that somewhere before, so will study your sticky - http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13879 - with a view to making things a bit safer

Also worth thinking about is has someone disconnected them from the pump. For instance how irritated would you be if you had spent ages washing and detailign yoru car, to go out and after 2 days you decide to pull the windscreen wash slightly which set off the headlight ones too resulting in dirty wash fluid lines all up your lovely cean bonnet?

I found that very irritating so have disconnected them and the pump and put a bung in the line so i can remove the bung and have them working properly again within a few minutes shouid I ever want/ need them to.

I'm fairly certain that nobody, ever, has spent time washing, let alone detailing my car
