3B S2 VDO boost gauge wiring

    Hello there.

Lately i bought a VDO boost gauge to replace the other discount gauge that the old owner had mounted.

I then realised that the old gauge was mechanical where the new one is electrical. So i bought a sensor, and recieved it the other day.
Now i am in a situation of where i have absolutely no clue how to wire this thing as it dosnt make any sence for me due to the look of the sensor?

Hope somebody got a nice tip or a guide or anything.

    Thanks so far.

Well you should be able to connect it according to this small diagram that you posted. What exactly do you need to know? Everything or few details?

hi. I dont think this one is for boost. Check VDO site - there is no such one for Boost - seems all are for liquid with bigger pressure readings:

Anyways it looks like oil pressure sensor as it has 2 pins - 1 for pressure gauge and other for dummy in the cluster ( low pressure output). Ground comes via thread. This is how OEM is wired. U can try it different ways - no damage will be done, just the needle will go all the way ( wrong) or just move a little when power supplied ( good).

Pretty much needs everything that i can get what comes to information as how to wire it into the system.

              And Takumi:
I can assure you my pressure gauge is for boost. and so should the sensor be. I ordered the gauge, found out it was electrical. wrote to the dealer that i was missing a sensor for the boost as it originally is vacuum controlled. And i got the exact link for the right sensor for the 2bar gauge.

This seems really an oil pressure sensor but maybe it can be compatible with your boost gauge

-put your sensor somewhere on the intake (sensor has ground on intake)
if you connect sensor with a tube on the intake you must make a ground to the body of the sensor than
                  meter:
+ (15) power with ignition on
                  - ground
s (sender) this you connect to the pressure sensor on intake (pin g or s)

above the meter you have other 2 pins, this is for dashboardlight
one pin is ground, the other(58) you connect somewhere on a dashboardlight wire like on your meters in the centerconsole,it's normal an grey/blue wire

                  i hope this will do

That helped quite alot. But still a bit confused. You mention a hose. But theres no vacuum on the sensor? It is all electronic? Ill post a pic of the rear of the gauge in a minutes aswell.

he says if you place the sensor on a rubber hose, it has no ground connection, so you need to ground the sensor.

the only place is thread, there should be a little hole on the sensor - this is where the reading comes. Try putting vaccum hose on it from intake.

But what you are saying is that the boost sensor has to be mounted into the intake manifold where it will get its earth signal. And react to boost aswell? Or would there be another way to mount it?
