    Brake problems...

    Hi guys,

I am having a terrible time trying to solve a problem with the rear brake lights - in that at the moment I have none! I don't know why... the dash has the warning light on it, I have checked the fuses all fine, don't know about the relays (any way to check this) - stripped the boot out and also the boot lid, all wires appear to be intact.

Any other tips or areas to look at? I used the search function but nothing came up...

    BTW, its a 2.8 V6 R reg Auto

Have you taken out the light clusters and looked at the metal connectors. They get all white and corrroded and furred up. This happened a lot on a couple of old Coupes I had years ago. Cleaning them up did the trick but I didnt have the same issue as you (no lights) mine were just going completely disco on me. Might be worth checking though as an easy fix, especially if there is a dampness in the area.

It might be worth checking the brake pedal switch.

Lee we had no brake lights on the caby and that turned out to be a fuse.Replaced the fuse and it's been fine ever since.Yours does sound strange with no power to it at all and yet the loom seams fine.Has the car ever had a rear end accident however small? Might be something to do with it.

It's most probably something very simple.

ahhh, brake pedal switch! I didn't think of that, but makes sense! I put a voltmeter on the bulb connectors but being a dunce I couldn't seem to get any power readings (that doesn't mean there is power going through!)

I checked all the fuses and all the bulbs, everything is as it should be on that front.

            hmmm, switch!

Just hard wire the switch connections see what happens.

Try adjusting the switch, it can slip in the clip and sit too far back from the pedal to make contact
