203 relay ur s4

on the road home from work . smoking coming from drivers side footwell panel,
ur s4 v8 lhd, houses the big double window /sunroof relay, behind it smoking away merrily like a steam train is relay 203 , 8ao 951 253a, so pulled it [burnt fingers]
, wiring is repairable so no real damage, but what does it do as it all seems to be working, bar the central locking [never worked ] ,
any help appreciated in its identification/replacement

On mine (A100 and S4) it closes windows when I lock the car, so that's why probably your central locking doesn't work either, because it's all connected. Correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: My A100 is LHD too.

thats great , thanks , it may explain why the central locking has never worked, old 203 sitting there like a time bomb,
just go to get rid of the acrid smoke smell now

Although I must add, I am not 100% sure if that relay is connected to central locking. As my 203 relay doesn't work in S4, but central still works. For the central locking, try taking the vacuum pump apart, and there might be a dry connection somewhere, had that problem with mine, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Since I fixed the connection, works like a dream.

Chris: 8A0951253A = contact close relay for electric window lifters for vehicle with "comfort shifting" (probably safety closing so the little kiddies can't kill their siblings by squishing their little heads in the window)
