Anybody know where this is?? I've just pulled the blink codes from by 93 S2 Avant and it's coming up with 1231, which is a vehicle speed sensor fault. Also does anybody know if this has anything to do with driving the mileometer on the dash as this is playing up aswell.
Cheers

out of interest did you drop the codes with the snap-on fault finder? i dropped the codes with a friedns snap-on one with the engine off but ignititon lights on it came up with this fault. When the engines running it doesnt. Apparently this is normal. Hope this helps.
Nice one

Codes were pulled using an LED, normally I would not have read much into the G68 sensor error, but as the mileometer is playing up I think there may be a fault.
All I need to know now is the location of the sensor, is it driven from one of the ABS sensors as on other cars I've owned??

I'd say it's more probably a wiring fault than the sensor itself OR then the instrument cluster is faulty (br/r cable IIRC).
The speed sensor signal goes to the cluster FIRST and spreads from there as a bit different to other devices (wh/blue)!
The sensor is on the gearbox just above the N/S F driveshaft output. I had a problem with mine once, it was just a loose connection in the plug at the sensor. It caused my speedometer and odometer to stop working.
IIRC the sensor's around £10 from the Stealer. It's just a little reed switch in a plastic tube. Just lift the plastic arm and rotate it, and it should pop out, if you need to replace it. HTH
I have got the same fault code as AndyP on my S2 Avant. No road speed info. no signal. The instrument panel is working great except the average fuel consumption, avearge speed etc. on the Onboard computer. The only things that has been presented is kilometers to empty tank and driven time.
What could be wrong here? the sensor G68 itself? the Onboard computer in intrument panel or what else?
Where is the Sensor G68 on the gearbox? The only connector I found there is for the rear gear lights.
My problem was fixed by removing the instrument binnacle and cleaning the contacts on all the wiring connectors, the trip computer started working then. It turns out that the speedo was getting held back by peeling white paint on the clocks, careful trimming with a scalpel cured that.

Andy: I think its the G28 not G68.
