S6/2.8 C4 quattro ignition switch replacement

Whilst i am waiting on the S6 cambelt parts i have taken out the rear and front centre consols plus steering wheel out in preperation to part move the dashboard to gain access to the ignition Switch to remove it and replace with the new one i ordered from audi.I can't think of any other way as it's sooo tight in there!! The reason for this is the 2.8 30V starts but cuts out after a second. The new ignition switch incorporates the reader coil which is aparantly what goes on them.I am replacing the Switch only not the lock as well. Can anybody who has removed the ignition switch tell me how its done or perhaps Dave URS4boy has a tutorial on the subject. Really want to get this fixed asap to confirm this was indeed the problem.Cheers.

    Ding!!

You absolutely did NOT need to remove the consoles. You should have asked for help first. Oh well, while they are out, you might as well do the heater core. (not 100% joking).

Heater core replacement (without removing the consoles, but easier with them off):

Yes , you're right , you don not have to remove the steering wheel or dashboard
I've seen the pictures and , on my old urs6 , the screws were torx pan head ... Very strange and , it took me a while before understanding what is happening there .

      Goodluck !

Thanks marius555 and you Dave. I never doubted you would come up with a tuturial.

Hmmm i have misrepresented the question then. This is the part i had to order through Audi Germany on special order. You give your vin number and they make you a new one of what i have pictured here. This is what i need to change. Apologies for the misrepresentation.

Only a lighter note i couldn't resist the opertunity to add some eye candy in the pictures.I am an Audi nut after all so i am sure you will understand my affliction. Don't suppose you got one of those Imsa 90's in your back pocket.

As ever your help greatly appreciated.

C4 Lock Ignition Lock Cylinder replacement hints

Nice S6plus brochure. You're probably the bashtard that beat me on ebay awhile back.

And yes, I have an Imsa Audi 90. Mine is also 1:18.

I have to ask, why did you need to change the mechanical portion of the ignition switch? They rarely fail. The electrical portion of the ignition switch? They do fail.

As for DIY's there are these:

I doubt it was me who beat you on the S6 plus brochure as i bought it at least 5 years ago now and from memory paid £22.00.I have an extensive brochure collection all B2 type 81 type 85,B3, B4, B5, C4 and C5.My S2 collection is what started it all. I have a few Ur quattro but sadly one or 2 of the brochures sell for up to £500 plus.Crazy but there we are.I also have a S2 and wait for it S4 pressmappe kits.Huge pictures loose leaf so you can put on the wall. Such a shame for me that they never did this type of kit for the URS6.

So please go ahead i wont be bidding against you By the way its a wicked brochure. They all are

If you look at my picture you will see the reader coil is incorperated into the part and if the reader coil has packed up which is supposed to be common here in uk even on the B4 cars with immobiliser or to put it another way it's not unknown then the car will fire up,run for one second and cut out. There is the white box part of the immobiliser circuit but apparantly rare if that goes.So i chose this part instead of an £800 bill from audi! and that was 3 years ago.

We'll have to compare brochure collections off line. I have lots of UrS4 brochures, press kits and owners manuals plus some UrS6 brochures and an RS2 brochure, to name a few.

The immobilzer loop and wire shows up even over here (even though we didn't get the immobilzer ECUs). I have an UrS6 steering column (with lock - which reminds me, I should get the key for it) and it has the immobilizer ring connection/wire.

Hopefully the links I gave you will help. The bottomline is a hole needs to be drilled in a specific location so you can depress a pin to release the existing mechanical lock.
