    Dash bulb red cap

    afternoon all.

Anyone know if you can get the little red cap for a dash bulb? Non of mine have one and the dash doesn't quite look right at night because of it.

Only other solution I thought of was to buy some red light tint spray, anyone else done anything?

You can get bag of them for cheap on ebay by searching "5mm bulb cap red".

You're right. None of mine have them either. In fact no factory S2, RS2, UrS4 or UrS6 came with red instrument cluster bulb covers. This is because they aren't needed. The S2, RS2, UrS4 and UrS6 instrument faces ("clock" faces) are multi-layer and one of the layers is a dark red. This looks black when not illuminated from behind and red when illuminated.

But if you really think you need them for the look you want, Google "red bulb covers" and you will find several sources.

I find that the centers of the gauge, around the needle spindle is very white, while the rest of it is red. The caps are cheap enough so i've ordered them. Many thanks for the ebay search. Trouble with a lot of these is knowing what to type in.

They are cheap, but they make a hell of a difference. Deff a must-do. You can also try to look at your local radioshack type stores. They should have them in stock.

I'm not sure that's right, my RS2 clocks had them in, as did the RS2 aux instruments I got from someone else in Germany - could be a coincidence, however In all the pictures I've ever seen of RS2 instruments illuminated they look redder than the S cars which have a slight orange tinge. Yes KATE does not show a part number for them, BUT I can think of many other instances where KATE is wrong about the RS2. So maybe, maybe they are supposed to be there

I'll endeavour to take a before and after picture. Main issue was knowing what to search for.

When I recently re-lamped the main clocks of my two urS6 Avants, in both cases, all bulbs were white, the only bulbs with coloured rubber covers were a red one in the top centre square that shows the OK symbol. And right beside the red one was an orange rubber capped bulb.

Filters on the check system bulbs have to be there from factory, no question about it. And they're pretty solid too, since the bulbs are 2W, compared to the rest, which are 1.1W/1.2W.

That's how is supposed to be on A/S6. Lighting on 100/S4/B3/B4 is orange. I have these ebay caps on my S2 cluster. They're not as clear red as C4 A/S6 or newer ones, but definitely worth it even considering they cost less than a beer for one cluster

Dash came out yesterday so should be back in at the end of the week so I will be able to put up an after pic.

Very hard to take a picture in the dark.

Main thing is the white light bleed around the needle centers has gone. It is a bit dimmer but that's not really a problem as gauges can be clearly seen. Thought I had a before picture but can't find it at the moment.

I prefer it with the caps though just because there isn't the white light bleed.
