ignition lights staying on

Hi, I have been driving an s2 for about a month now ,I parked it a week ago ,it was parked outside and it rained , tried to start it yesterday but the battery was flat ,charged and refitted battery and noticed the moment I connected the battery cables the dash lights come on without the key in the ignition , when I start the the car it fires up then dies immediately. Where do I start looking?

Ignition switch more than likely. Behind key, not a big job to change or big £s. How to on here somewhere.
