Does anyone know how to remove the black plastic chip reader ring from the key end of the ignition barrel? It's probably easy but don't want to risk breaking anything!

Boiling water for 10 mins to soften it then slowly prise opposite the tang where the wires come out. I have just sent most of my spare ign. parts to Spink but have the coil reader off a barrel some where so may be able to get some pictures to show the relevant pry places.
Why are you after a new coil reader ? they rarely go down and can be checked quite easily. Various other issues are often portrayed as a bad coil reader.

Forgot to mention when you are in this area you should remove the contact block as they are notorious for cracking and the spring retainer and ball causing all sorts of problems.

Just removing the coil reader so I have a spare if needed.

What's the contact block (and spring retainer and ball)!

            Cheers

Big white bit at the other end search on replacing it posts on audi fans and you can see the issue may have been reposted on here at some point as the info is 10+ years old at least
