    Rear wiper RS2

yesterday i had an interesting experience. Flicked the switch to activate the rear wiper. it went ok, redid it to stop it and it intermittently didnt work so i had to do it a few times.

Then after it finally worked, i had to reactivate them and it worked with effort and it hasnt worked since.

i checked the rear cables for cuts and breaks, there were only a few wire scuffs but nothing spectacular which i mended and unfortunately no fun.

I sprayed a bit of contact cleaner on the stalk switch and plug and it didnt make a difference either.

Am i right to believe that the stalk is done? at least the rear wiper function..

the motor worked fine when activated..

That or the relay/box of tricks under the dash.

My problem was a combination of stalk and the relay/box was making an intermittent connection with the socket.

The rear wiper control module is J30, track [19], pg. 3/4 of http://www.s2central.net/S2_Schematics/C/C42.PDF in location 20 under the dash, protected by the S18 fuse in the box under the hood.

PN should be 191955529. Very common. Seems to have been used on C3s, C4s and B3s and B4s. Seems to be a "239" on a C4 Avant but, for the B4 avants, it might be the "205" in this B3/B4 photo:

      C4 fuse box, 239, position 11:

      94 UrS4 V8 6 spd manual avant

On my avant I could pretty much never get it to work so I tried cleaning the stalk with contact cleaner n flicking the stalk around loads with a few sprays of cleaner and it fixed it. Works every time now. Maybe worth a try?

                Cleaner worked!

I couldn't find tell relay though. This happens when the car is a transplant. There may be a chance it's relocated. On position 11 I have relay 341.

THis is a stupid question but without an S2 or RS2 handy, I don't know the answer: Which way is up in these photos, below??. One of them (probably mine), is upside down (or is it?) Or are they really the same shaped panel??

Willing to bet that photo in post above is LHD with upside up - the connector blocks are on the right... door hinge (looks like) on zee left... and late model IMMO relays apparent.

The S2/RS2 rear wiper relay is in the carrier under rear seat - position 20 for reference.
