    Ebays HID kits

I intend to buy a set of HID bulbs with ballasts for my TDI Avant, which is running what I believe are coupe headlights as they have H4 bulbs for the dip light which stays on with dip and full.
I will also be purchasing a pair of projector lenses to go with the bulbs, as it will give it more of an RS2 look

Has anyone bought some recently off ebay or another site that they would recommend?

I buy my HID's off ebay and 6 odd years later they are still running fine.

Go for 6000k and 50W as the 35W have had bad reviews

      Good to hear mate.
I was actually going to go for the 35w, so thanks for the heads up
Does anyone know anything about "canbus" as some of the sets can be bought with or without it I believe

Keep in mind the projector lights use different bulbs, you will need a H1 kit for those. If you can go for a 5000k kit as they are white vs the blue 6000k.

Cheers. If I go with the H1 setup, will I still get constant light with dip and full, as that's how it is at the moment with stock H4 bulbs.

With the lights you have the H4 bulbs switch element between dripped and full beam, and it also turns on the H1 bulb for main beam. With the projector lens the dipped beam (H1 bulb) stays lit all the time, and it also switches the second H1 element on for full beam. Truth be told the earlier H4/H1 setup are the better lights, but the projector are the only ones suitable for a HID bulb IMO.

Has anyone managed to find a set that you can still fit the plastic caps on the rear of the headlamp,

The last 3 sets of cheap kits I have purchased from eBay all different makes. I have not been able to just drill a hole and fit the grommet for the wiring. The bulbs all seem too long to be able to fit the dust cap....

Don't forget that unless the MOT requirement has changed again you will need headlight height adjusters and headlight washers for your next MOT if you fit HID's...

The bulb you need is called something like H1-4 as it is smaller (Can not remember the exact name of them)

Are you fitting the glass lens at the front of the headlight, or an actual protector bulb unit?

Its been a while since i last bought any, but i have gone through three sets of bulbs from various suppliers and not had that issue. I am using regular 35w bulbs, maybe that is where the difference lies.

Should look a bit more modern as well as project a bit more light than the current candles
