    Help please: basic wiring

So today I finished the removal of the wiring loom for my Recaros and thought I'd get the irritating boost gauge out of the way too.

I snipped the three wires coming out of the back of the boost gauge (Red, Yellow and Black) and now I don't have backlighting on my instrument cluster It makes obvious sense to me now as the boost gauge would light up (one of the things that annoyed me) when I switched on the lights.

I can't trace these wires back to the wiring loom underneath the steering wheel - so is there a simple way I can join them back up to complete the circuit to my speedo/rev counter lighting? If so, which wire joins to which?

You shouldn't have to reconnect those wires to get your dash lights back, I suspect you've blown fuse 4 give that a check.

Can't find any blown fuses wouldn't the wiring have to re connect to something if the back-lit dials ran through the boost gauge too?

Like you say depends how the gauge was wired. When I did mine I took the feed from the glovebox. Try a choc block on the wires to see if that retains the lights to work for the moment

Like what K sims was saying, if your fuse ain't blown and your lights ain't working now, by deleting the gauge by cutting it has broken the circuit. If you try just fitting the gauge again to make sure the lights power up again will confirm this.

Then you will need to isolate those wires. But strange it hasn't blown the fuse. Maybe worth also taking the fuse out and replacing with a new one, sometimes they blow but don't always show (in the rare case)

Also just re reading, are you snipping the wires to remove the gauge or just to stop it lighting up as it annoyed you?

Removed the gauge, I found the whole thing pointless!

Have you tried fitting temp again to rule the gauge is the lose of power.

Then track the wires, take down the steering cowling and gently pull the loom to trace it, watch for movement etc. then get some photos up to where it's all going.

Choc block is those white terminal blocks you could use. To isolate the wires

The wiring disappears behind the centre console and the same colours don't appear in the loom under the steering wheel... But anyway it looks like one wire goes to a terminal, then turns blue, then heads towards the passenger side I tried dismantling the centre console to no avail

That's why I was hoping there could be a quicker way to just complete the circuit back up again. I'll have a look at connecting that gauge again later on this aft

I've had a similar issue before, someone before had wired my radio to my fog light for some reason (switch) currently I can't power mine up but haven't looked properly. There is a fuse prob 4 thst has the audio linked to it also. But check over the scuttle panel. I would but I haven't my car to hand to look.

I will go search for a photo for it

Looking at this it makes sense that it'd (both the lighting and the radio) be fuse 4, but then I'd expect my Autocheck to have stopped which it hasn't

Did you cut through all wires at the same ttime? I reckon you've blown fuse 4 at least. Are reg plate lights working?
