    Rear Wiper Issue

    Hi all,

Read a lot of threads on the rear wiper but want to double check what you all think...

The rear wiper on my '94 S2 ABY Coupe used to have an intermittent fault, now it just doesn't work whatsoever. My rear window washer is working everytime though, so does this mean that the relay is okay? Where is this relay and what is the number?

Contact cleaner sprayed on to the wiper stock/lever?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks guys.
    Cheers,
    Grant

Sounds identical to my issue - I've not looked in to it yet but I'll follow this one to see what's what!

I'd suspect a break in the tailgate wiring loom is causing this.

So the wiring for the washer and wiper motor are separate? I'm just assuming that they'd be powered from the same cabling considering moving the stock forward is 'supposed' to activate both simultaneously?

The pump and its wiring is in the body, the wiring to wiper motor has to pass through the tailgate where it is subject to stress from opening and closing over its lifetime.

Mine did this. Washer worked fine but the motor was intermittent at best

Was a relay fault. It's under the rear seat in a 1993 ABY car

I have the same issue plus the heated rear window doesn't work.........well bot hit and the wiper do work if the tailgate is fully open!! My question is....how do I get to the wiring between the roof and the tailgate? There's a thick rubber grommet covering it and I'm not sure if I need to cut it off then re-tape it back together or if there is a tried and tested way of getting round this??

Me and a friend did my avant over a year ago. We pulled the rubber out of the tail gate and pushed it as far inside the body/ roof as possible and pulled the wires in the opposite way as much as possible to be able to resolder the whole lot. It was very fiddly and took ages (which was not fun in January as it was cold lol) and then pulled the rubber back down and restuffed the end back into the tailgate, but its like having something new for the car when its all done and working. I still had to squirt contact cleaner into my steering column to clean the switch up to make the wiper work properly though.

Don't cut anything, the rubber grommet will come out of both the tailgate and the body. You can buy a repair kit (aftermarket, I think) on german eBay which has connectors which will save on soldering but still likely to be a pain.....

I had to do mine, its very tight, bad design.... good test of your soldering skill... patience.

Check if there is electrical feed getting to the wiper motor (use a multi meter) before you start cutting any cables etc, grease can be a problem too, I had a problem years back which was grease in the motor mechanicals not the motor itself if you follow?
                        Hope this helps..

                            Hi Mike,

The relay can be opened up and cleaned inside etc? I did this to the electric windows one when it was playing up.

                            Thanks,
