    Lights dim at idle ??

    Hi Guys,

Just had my alternator refurbished but now I find the lights are dimming when the revs drop down to idle, the voltmeter shows 14v when the revs are anything above idle but only 12v when it is at idle... Is it a voltage regulator issue or has the alternator not been refurbished to the correct spec.. Never had this before, only reason for the refurb was a bearing failure....

Could I have been given a refurbished exchange unit but not to the correct spec ???.

What part number should I have ?

    Thanks lads

    PAUL

Maybe the pulley has been refitted with a larger one so alternator RPM is lower at idle?

Could be just the brushes waiting to wear in, I was getting a alternator warning light at start up for a couple of weeks, but once worn a bit and fitted to the old grooves it was fine.

I would say run it for a bit before you say it's broken

Maybe when refurbishing it because of bearing failure, the voltage regulator wasn´t changed...

Wrong pulley also may be, but this can be checked easily- when your belt is the same and fits, pulley should be corretc size.
Check the regulator and the coals. Maybe they are worn.
