    Auto Electrical Toolage Advice?

I need a new multimeter and a soldering iron, so I just thought I'd ask here in case anyone has any recommendations for some good value for money items.

A multimeter I tend to use most weeks, and a smaller one is preferable, as I often like to keep it with me in the car, back-lit is preferable, but not essential.
A soldering iron I don't use that often, but obviously it needs to be up to the job. I've had the odd cheap one in the past that wasn't up to the job.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any items that may be of use to me?

    TIA.

Has beep to check continuity and temp sensor.
Buy an gas soldering iron or12v one ,as you dont have all the time 220v access.
    All the best!

Thanks Eugen. A temp sensor could be handy.

A friend of mine always used a gas soldering iron, & that's a good point, working on the car can be a pain when you need to sort out extension leads and so on.

          Re: soldering iron
Never used a gas iron myself. But I would say buying a proper (adjustable) one for usage at the bench is the way to go.

If you don't have a garage/yard/long cable, buy a gas iron as well (would not use it at the bench, no need to)

If you do have garage to work on the car, just buy a simple, cheap, non adjustable iron as having the adjustment station in the car is annoying.

          Re: multimeter
if you are only looking for +12v +5v in your car then do not spend too much on it. Like one for 13+GBP will be ok. Do not expect it to be too precise to .001 V
But if you are going inside the components, working on some more sophisticated projects, get one that at least has capacitance meter.

I use this gas soldering iron, had a few cheaper ones but they never last

For multimeter I recommend fluke as I have roasted a few cheaper ones having them on the wrong setting or they don't have auto shut off and the battery is always dead when you need it
