ABY S2 Airbag Warning Light on

Hi, I replaced the original 4-spoke airbag steering wheel for a 3-spoke airbag steering wheel on my 1995 ABY s2 over 2 years ago and have had no issues until recently. Now, the airbag warning light is now on continuously. I have had it checked with VAG-COM which initially reported low resistance. The airbag control module was replaced and the warning reset. This was fine for a couple of weeks, but the light then came back on. This time, VAG-COM reported a different error which indicated the clockspring needs to be replaced. The clockspring details I have are :- Drivers Airbag Ignitor Squib - 00588. I understand these are prohibitively expensive from the dealers, however, is the same part used by other vehicles in the VAG group, and if so, does anyone have the part number, or a suitable unit for sale ? I still have the original 4-spoke steering wheel, but I don't think there is any part of this that I can use.
    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar sounding issue to yours last year. The fault codes indicated either the driver side ignitor or its wiring was damaged. It turned out to be the orange connectors under the steering wheel weren't making a good contact. I took them apart, cleaned the pins, bent them ever so slightly and it fixed it! Definitely worth trying before replacing anything
