I had a similar situation with my '93 S4 recently, it got me really worried for a minute and then I remembered something I saw on some website or other. On the S4's there is a 5 amp fuse next to the ecu which supplies the ecu's power, I changed the fuse and as if by magic the car fired up first time! Not sure whether the S2 is the same but it's worth a look!
Hope you get it sorted soon!
'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.

      No fuses near the ECU.

Did the car stop while driving or just one time did not start?

If it did not start, I guess the hall sender is #1 choise.

If it stalled while driving there are plenty of choises, unfortunately.

Check the fuses at the fusebox below the red "motor" fuseholder. If a fuse is blown you have something wrong as they're not there just to blow and to be replaced...

Our cars do not prime the fuel lines, the pump runs only when starting/running.

The fuel pump relay feeds the ecu and is signalled by the ecu, neat, huh?

One pretty common thing is a distributor gear failure. Take out the dizzy cover and try to turn the rotor. If the dizzy gear is dead, the dizzy wont turn and then the hall is not correctly aligned and that means no ignition at all. I guess no fuel pump feed neighter.

In '92 cars the only option for factory immo was a system called "conlog". This had nothing to do with the ignition switch.

I'd say that the dizzy gear went south.

sounds like an ignition fault, best check all the ignition wiring for continuity, does the engine turn on the starter or is it totally dead?

The engine turns but there's no spark and the fuel pump also doesn't switch on..

Found the problem.. A 20A fuse was blown in the fuse box. It's in a pink holder and is fuse 32 for engine timing 3.
Still not sure what caused the fuse to blow.
                            Any ideas?
