Bit of an old thread, but when my battery has been disconnected, I just lock and unlock the car using the key. After this, the IR remote works.

UrS4boy thank you for your patient and revisit my post.
http://www.audifans.net/ftopicp-154943.html - these codes are valid for C4 too.

Today i tried to reset the software code for the central lock.
00000 and than write back the previus value(10184 its a valid value).

After i tried to teach the keys.

This seems could work in my case:

    [Select]

[46 - Cent. Conv.] or [35 - Cent. Locking] (whichever is applicable to the car, as found here)

    [Meas. Blocks - 08]

Enter group "003" (may be group "007" in some vehicles)

    [Go!]
In my case in the second field is 0000->no keys avaliable doesen't move to next memory positions:
    [Select]

The value in field 2 shows how many remotes have been matched and in which memory positions (for example, "0001" indicates 1 transmitter in position 1).

Lock the car from outside using the new, unmatched key in the driver-side door lock. You may need to hold the key in the unlock position while you do the next step.
i pressed the button 1 timein the last field the first two bits are changing when i press lock and unlock so the cars receive the signs)
    [Select]

Press the UNLOCK button on the new key within 5 seconds often enough to reach next memory position (so, if the value in field 2 was 0001, you should press the new key's unlock button twice, to put the new key in memory position 2)..
Yes the indicator is blinkingbut nothing change in VCDS field 2 is still 0000)
    [Select]

The car may give you some sort of acknowledgement as the button is pressed (lights flash, horn beep, etc.)
    I do this:
    [Select]

Wait 5 seconds and press the unlock button on the new key to unlock the door.
But can not open the door with unlock button and nothing happen more:
    [Select]

Turn the ignition key to OFF and remove the old key.

Press LOCK and UNLOCK with the new key.

Insert the new key in the ignition and turn to the ON position (do not start car).
    Still nothing change

To be honest, will not be doing it for a month or two, too busy, and not under pressure to do it.

What I had in mind is that to adjust combined total of the numbers to get the beep of the horn to turn off when the alarm is switched on.

And also to see if the central locking can altered to get it to lock all of the doors when the speed say goes over 15mph.

Not much help to you right now, but if I ever do ever get to do any experimentation, I'll update the thread, but I know it won't be anytime soon, sorry.

    Best wishes in the meantime.

Ir remote still does not works. It seem it lost all the factory settings.
In VCDS i checked the keys booth of them are working the car can detect
the keys(bits are change when lock and unlock buttons pressed).
The workshop code is : 65535
    The software code is 10184

I dont know exactly what these codes are mean.Probably
thats the reason why i can not teach my keys.
(Left in on position in the ignition one key and with other key manually lock the driver's side door
the result is i can press the lock and unlock button and the car's indicator blinking 5 times but nothing else happened(no lock or unlock)
after t time the key aren't working anymore)

Just found this recode locking guide:

but it is for B5 i dont know if it is fit for C4

I tried to put one key into ignition, turn it,other key close and open,result->blinking the indicators 3 time,
-i put into the ignition the key with holding the open button and somehow(the key is loose in the cylinder so dont know if it is connect correctly) the key began to work,
for a while but the alarm was activated i had to unconnect the battery to stop the horn.

Now the keys are not working again

Just come back from my car.
What i did i set one key in the ignition i turn it on position.
With the other key a closed the door manually.
Than i push the button and the indicators were blinking but no horn.
Its happened 3-4 times but not opening the doors.

In the same time the central lock was not working when i closed the door with the key.
//unconnect the battery was help to get back the central lock

So it is still does not working

    Hello Mike74,

you were totally right. The system forgot the key system.
I try to follow the instructions but the key in ignition lock is so loose.
For example when a switch the keys out the the buzzler is not indicate that
    the lights on.
I accidently reactivate the keys but than the alarm was activated so i must
unconnect the battery so it is forget the keys again...

C4 100/UrS4 Infrared Remote Key - Batteries and Reprogramming

Batteries (4) are Energizer 386/301, oriented as shown in the photo below.

Reprogramming the key, if/when required, involves have one key in the ignition, turned to ON/RUN (but not START) while the second key is used to manually lock and unlock the drivers door lock. If the car has been sitting for some time or you have to change the batteries, getting the remote to work again just requires that you lock and unlock the door manually once and then the key remote will "work" again. (The IR remote has a very limited range and is intereferred with by bright sunlight and fluorescent lights (e.g. in a parking garage). HTH

Sometimes the issue isn't batteries but the little Item 29 infra red bulb:
