Central lockning, lock but not unlock

Hi, have problem with central locking. Bought a car recently, it doesnt have locks in doors, so i added them (incl position switch and heating on them). Tested before mounted to doors.
Already opened central locking pump to check oxidations ect.. nothing realy bad inside.

So i can only lock doors by key(pump make an vacuum). Central unlock doesnt work. Pump doesnt try to make a pressure(to unlock).

    Pump number 4A0862257D

    Any idea?

You have to at least give us some hints, like what car are we talking here? B3? B4? Coupe? UrS4? UrS6?

    Please.

I have a similar problem on my RS2 - was advised it was to do with the immobiliser but I'm not convinced.

Trick answer? There were no B4 coupes. Even the last S2 1996 S2 coupe was a B3 (8B3039).

That said, we know it's a coupe and its a 1993 so this applies:
          http://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+cou.../8/862-862000/

There are a bunch central locking control pump listed there under Item 16 (see diagram at the bottom here). None of them is 4A0862257D. Never mind, I have been down this road before. I have previously reported the following:

4A0862257 = pump with control module, dropped on Feb. 28, 1992 in favour of a 4A0862257B (not sure whether there ever was a 257A)

4A0862257B = pump with control module, dropped on May 31st, 1996 in favour of a 4A0862257D.

          4A0862257D
= pump with control module for infrared remote "Hella" (I have two spares of these, one from a 93 UrS4 and one from a 93 100) - should be the same as the one in my 93 UrS4. - dropped on Feb. 28, 1994 in favour of a 4A0862257F.

4A0862257F = from March 1, 1994 to Feb. 28, 1996. Presumably still the infrared remote (which by the way was available in Europe even on the C4 A6 and the C4 UrS6s). Dropped on Feb. 28, 1996 in favour of a 4A0862257G.

4A0862257G = March 1, 1996 to...wait a minute...it was dropped on Feb. 28, 1996...even before it was started. So there is an issue with the date data. 4A0862257G was dropped in favour of a 4A0862257J.

4A0862257H = pump with control module (no mention of remote) "VD0". I am thinking this might be what the V8 avant has.

          4A0862257J
= seems to be the only replacement pump left. It now shows in the C4 parts all the way back to 1991 (Europe A 100) = pump with control module for vehicles with anti-theft system for vehicles with infrared locking system. (No mention of VDO or Hella).

Doesn't prove too much other than the 257D OE central locking pump might be original to the car and that the solution could be a good used 257J.

Here is a wiring diagram that *might* help you sort things out, e.g. the IR sensors might be broken (Is your key programmed properly??):

Thanks for loads of info UrS4boy!

Im newbie in audi slang, car is 1993 S2 with ABY engine. Maybe year can be 1992.

Problem is history of car as it becames older+multiple prevousion owners, it can be mixed with other parts, who knows.

I dont have infrared keys, when i saw this:

have just one second from left, and have made a spare one - first from left. Also there is no infrared recievers.
Wiring for pump looks untouched, three connectors as on your picture.

Car didnt have a carpet, underparts of dashboard etc so i bought cheap basic "B4" 2liter fwd coupe and source for details from it, it also doesnt have infrared keys and have white locking pump with just two connectors 4A0862257H.

Is the pinout of connectors still the same(i mean unsused pins are just left)?
Im going to check cables colours and position, maybe i can try more basic white pump.

I will try to make some progress today.

With respect, how can you tell that its the central locking pump and not something else? Can you identify specifically what has failed in the central locking pump that would lead to the problem described?

The problem is if the car does NOT have infrared receivers, it was never wired for infrared remote and therefore, the factory would very originally installed the 257H pump in your car, not the one that is currently there. I have no idea about the 257H pin-out but I am going to guess that what you need for the infrared system is not going to be there.

Regardless, I think you need to stop your infrared efforts right there and move to a more effective (rangewise) aftermarket radio remote, such as offered by RightClick.

I am in a similar situation (94 C4 S4 with no remote, just central locking). I have ordered 1 x Remote Keyless for VW, Audi, Ford, Skoda, Seat, Porsche KE851HC (KE851HC) = ÂŁ27.95, with key Blank HU49 Car Make Audi. I plan to use the wires from the door lock as my way into the new remote, i.e. T12/3 and/or T12/4.

So just to clarify have you tried unlocking the car from both driver & the passenger doors or locking from inside the car (doors closed)? There are two microswitches inside the locking actuator in the doors that triggers the CL pump to run suck/blow (giggidy) depending on whether you are locking or unlocking. These are triggered by rods from the key lock and also the locking pin/snip on the top of the door card.
you can test the CL pump manually by bridging the terminals on the connector for the actuators - pin 2 is the signal wire to the CL pump, the other two are +12v and earth. Bridging either to pin 2 will trigger lock or unlock (can't remember off the top of my head which is which).
You can check continuity at the same time with the CL pump.
Probably wise to check the pin-out for the door actuators for the OE pump matches the pump you have fitted

Today i just found problems on boot lock. There was seized arm on keylock which is connected to piston valve. And also there was broken one mounting pin on microswitch on lock/hang (to check open/closed boot). Important things, but situation is still same.

And there is a little maybe stupid question about boot keylock. I can open boot only with key inserted, fully turned right and push in. I cant open boot just pressing lock without key (and lock turned vertical(?) or horizontal(lock)). Keylock was dissasembled, cleaned, lubricated, assembled. Have also spare one, by comparing both work the same.

I dont need remote unlocking. But teoreticaly, if car was stripped from infra recievers (there is no overleft connectors around B pillars) i still must work unlock/lock by keys in doors, isnt?
Now i must print the diagrams UrS4boy posted and test+measuring...

Tested dumb style white H pump, = connected just two connectors. Doing nothing at all.

And to answer Error404 question, tested outside of car, doors closed. Both doors doing the same, only locking. Now i think, when i go inside, closed the doors, pushing(to lock) the carpet rods, nothing happend. Hope it will be just wiring or pinout at pump. I will test bridging and connection measuring the swithes in doors first.

                      1. Seems to be some confusion on how the trunk and hatch locks interact with the central locking system. The diagrams below are from UrS4 sedan, UrS6 Sedan and Avant Owner's manuals. Sorry I don't have a coupe manual handy.

My 93 S4 sedan 94 S4 V8 avant are a bit different: The 93 UrS4 sedan is similar to the diagram below but to open more than just the trunk, I need to turn the key twice from Position "a" to "b" in rapid succession; turning once and holding does nothing. However, the info about Postion "c" and "d" is correct. In contrast, the 94 UrS4 avant does NOT have central lock so there is no position "c", just "a", "b" and "d", as per the diagram.

My 98 C4 A6 avant was different again (not sure why). It was shifted by 90 degrees: vertical = central locking control; horizontal = locked/valet mode.

                      2. Any chance of the 257H central locking control module/pump showing the connectors, similar to my photo of a 257D:

Hello. Just fixed my main problem.
I found the unlocking signal from keylock switch is not coming to the pump. Traced wire and found coroded connections at the drivers floor. Car has rusty floor, so wires was continously wet. Both locking(brown-grey) and unlocking(brown-green) signal cables has coroded split connection(same signals to both doors).
Also found cutted signal wire from drivers piston valve(or how may i call it), pin 2 (green-blue) was connected to aftemarket alarm system, which i throwed away. This praticular connection was cutted in door grommet and extended by unoriginal wire, so not visible,i left it during uninstalation of alarm. Now i found and connected back.

So i can lock/unlock from outside of car, both doors. Nice. Also i can lock/unlock inside by drivers locking pin in doorcard.
But passanger locking pin doesnt work. Its the secon pin on piston valve, yellow-blue(or yellow-green im not sure right now, doesnt have notes by hand) wire. Probably goes to T12 pin 11 , which is missing on diagram/pinout posted here.
I didnt found any cut but probably somewhere it will be.

Can you lock/unlock whole car by passengers carddoor lock pin, yes?

Boot lock must also lock/unlock whole car, or just itself(my situation)?

Boot lock has just 3 position, so different to avant/sedan. Now i found in horizontal position i can open boot just by push it. It now works probably due repaired arm i noted before.

Comparsion of H pump for UrS4boy. It using just black T12 and T6(with less pins) connectors. On picture black connector is stripped for measuring. I didnt found pigtails from donnor car, unfortunately.

Passenger door should operate the central locking the same as the drivers side. Does the pin on the passenger side pull down into the door card when you lock the car? If not the rod will probably be disconnected from the door lock mechanism. The boot lock does not trigger the central locking.

Passenger pin goes up and down as it should, of course. Until today i have doors without cardboards so checked and repaired every mechanical parts.
