Yes. The fuel pump circuit is drawing too much current. Reasons for this include:
1) external wiring that is frayed, with exposed copper wires grounding (earthing) to some metal part of the body
2) internal fuel pump issues (bearing problem)
Start with checking the fuel pump wiring. It will be an intermittent issue, i.e. small bit of exposed wiring. Good luck.

Sorry to bring this up. My speedometer failed as well. Worked intermittently. Changed the speed sensor just in case. Now it's not working at all. Everything else is fine.
Anyone in the UK that could have a go repairing it?
Assuming both your speedo and odometer have stopped working the most likely cause of the problem is the connection between the 4 long pins on the speedo unit and the inside of the instrument cluster. I cleaned those pins and the speedo worked for a while but when it failed again I bypassed them using 4 core cable and everything has been fine since.
As you take the instrument cluster apart, the individual gauges are bolted to the back panel of the instrument cluster. When you remove the speedo unit, you'll see that the electrical connection between the speedo unit and the back panel circuit board is made by 4 long pins that are attached to the speedo unit and slide in to individual connection "sockets" on the back panel.
The simplest repair would be to just solder the pins to the back panel at the connection points but if you do that it would be very difficult without good desoldering equipment to ever get the speedo unit out again if you needed to.
Ok. Tested a known working tacho and it didnt work either. Checked the cables and made sure they are ok.
Am I right to assume that the speed sensor I replaced may be duff?
