So I was looking at the wiring diagrams for the 1991 model year, and what drew my attention is that I see many circuits are unfused. What do you guys think - am I missing something or do not look at it correctly? Of course, there is a "well known" headlight washer circuit, as well as the after-run coolant pump one which was mentioned somewhere. But then there are other circuits such as ignition switch, x-relay, key out buzzer, parking lights/headlight flasher switches, some other relays (i.e. fuel pump, fog light, rad. fan high speed) as well as power for the Motronic ECU and G22 sensor. Even the small temperature fan fan circuit in the dash seems to be unfused! So I am wondering - is this just poor design or is there some reason for this?

Well, not for the argument's sake, but to make it clear for myself
Sorry if these questions seem stupid
Here is the wiring diagram for the parking lights switch for 1991 Coupe S2. The constant power goes directly from the "30" bus in the fuse box to the parking lights switch, then goes back directly to the fuse box. Only then it is fused and goes to the respective light bulbs. That's why it looks like parking lights switch is not fused.
If - for example - the wire from the parking light switch to the fuse box gets shorted to ground - then what??

That is exactly what I was trying to point out - those fuses on the left only protect part of the circuit - the wires that go out to the light bulbs and light bulbs themselves. Nothing (at least per this diagram) protects the other part of the circuit on the right - from the fuse box to the parking light switch and back to the fuse box.Comment

Get over it and move on. Waste of time discussing this. Apparently the risks that you are bringing up are infinitesimally small due to wire design (insulation thickness and gauge) and location - otherwise Audi (and others) would not have designed it as such. Please trust the Audi engineers and stop worrying. That is exactly what I was trying to point out - those fuses on the left only protect part of the circuit - the wires that go out to the light bulbs and light bulbs themselves. Thank you. Finally an answer to my original question with an opinion on why this could have been done - instead of arguing and saying that is was not doneGet over it and move on.
