Maybe so but the consumption would be based on 8 injectors being fired for a given time, not five. Therefore it would not read properly.

No Dave. The S6 dash can be re-coded to any cylinder count. By default it is coded to a V8, you can recode it to 5-cyl turbo. My consumption gauge and therefore the average consumption is off by 2% (as usual with Audi, same on my A80), shows 2% less than it is in reality.

      This is the coding table:

Recoding is done via VCDS or VAG-COM. After you physically install the dash and wire the 4-th pin of the green connector to the L-Line diagnostics plug, the dash is recognized by the software and you can code it. You can code the consumption corrections, service intervals, cylinder counts and engine types, etc.

My dash was by default a 00183. I had to change it to 00154. And wuala, the RPM and everything else is displayed correctly. I've described the dash swap in my car topic.

Can you also change this on the s2 or rs2?

OKay, I learned something today. I doubt that that would work on an UrS4 instrument cluster though. On the UrS6, there is communication with VAG-com because of the digital odometer which the UrS4 lacks.

It won't work on UrS4 cluster, it's mechanical. Old style clusters (UrS4, S2, RS2) are coded with the coding chips you mentioned above, and are not connected to diagnostics.

You already asked me that once in my topic.

                      C4 trip computer

Recoding the instrument cluster(IC) for the later C4 ICs with the digital speedometer can be done via VAGCOM. I used a RHD FWD speedometer cluster for the trip computer in my UrS6. Picture of the coding options.

Picture of the trip computer installed in my S6. No boost gauge readout in the IC but have a pillar mount gauge.

The early C4 chassis vehicles with analog odometer readouts have no communication via VAGCOM.
The B3/B4 chassis have no communication via VAGCOM.
