    boot loom wiring issues

    guys

i have a problem with my rear for light in the saloon. it doesn't work

long story short i fixed the power feed to switch and traced thw wire back to the bulb.

i seem to have a break which is in the boot lid loom. pin 5 on the plug when fed power wont light the bulb but bulb works. all other lights in boot work.

i see no wire damage and it worked fine before conversion.

    quick questions.

is pin 5 the right one?
anybody experience of repairing these looms. how did they do it.
can you still get these looms.
    is b4 the same?

    cheers

You can get replacement looms although you need to splice in part of your old loom - they always break next to the hinges

When I had my B4 saloon the loom had been replaced with speaker cable so cut loom in boot and boot lid and used a length of flex from a tow bar electric kit to reconnect with gromets from scrappy👍

        Secrets of rear loom wiring

*IF* you can get an New new loom or a good used loom, and some idiot doesn't cut it but follows it back to the source plug, then there is no need to splice. You just follow it back to the source plug and replace.

For example, here is what a C4 hatch loom looks like. The two hatch harness source connectors are behind the two black pins in the lower left of the photo below.

You need to splice in the old section of loom from within the boot lid

B4 Sedan trunk loom part numbers

            B4 Sedan trunk loom

RHD PN: 8A2971726A to VIN 8C-R-140400, 8A2971726D after VIN 8C-R-140400

Here is a compromise replacement set. Has connectors set up so the "splice" to your set is done with connectors on your harness wires. Note the two plugs that I mention (Items 2 and 7 in the diagram above)

WRONG?: "So many levels"? You might wish but no
              This ain't my first rodeo.

Can you read German? Reparatursatz = repair kit, not "New OE loom"

At least it does have connectors so there is no actual splicing.

Complete OE looms like a 8A2971726A are probably NLA. I know I recently bought a C4 hatch loom on a close out sale here in NAmerica

I used loom from C4 saloon on mine. Connectors 2 and 7 are opposite side so they must be replaced, but everything else is the same.

Gazza- If this idea sounds interesting to you, then the above cable (7 core) is available from virtually any caravan sales centre, and it's flexible. Also available would be 13 core, and will be sold by the metre.....

                  Just a thought.

                  Tony.

                    cheers guys

mines a b3. 2 loom sides left does boot lid lights, right does lock. id expect a;most identical looms though.

its the left one. ill look to trace it back. hope the break is in the lid and not the plastic bit between. i doubt it though.

Tony - thats a good idea. i got the connectors so i may be able to do that. i can get the multicore from where the car is i expect.

Here is mine when I got it, in a right state
Cant find the repaired photo but the trailer cable worked good.
The trailer cable o/d was slightly wider than the plastic clip that goes on the bar between the hinges but just held it place with plastic ties.
Got two gromets with right angle sleeves, OEM on a budget

I hope the final product was better than the above because that looks terrible. You'd be better off with the aftermarket repair kit.

ok so i have had to cut the bit in the hinges out of the cable.

basically 3 broken wires of the 5 on the bend in the middle. only one showed before cutting the casing off it.

i got some 5 core. its only 5 on the b3 on the left side. its slightly thicker than stock but fits in the retainers and gromets. the rest of the loom is fine.

solder job tomorrow to get ti in one piece. seems audi used mult pieces. 1 earth pieced out and wire changes from stiped to hooped as it enters the boot lid.

                              ill update tomorrow.
