    UrS4 Climate control always on

Started the Urs4 up today (been on a trickle charger) and did a few bits with it.

After that the climate control lights are always on even with the ignition off, also the hazard light button is lit up. I can even turn on the blower motor with no key in the ignition!

Anyone know what this might be? Tried searching but nothing found, could only guess it's a failed / stuck relay?

This will drain the battery in no time!

    Thanks

EDIT: It's not just the blower motor either, the windscreen wipers + water, headlights, window illumination lights and other stuff is still on with ignition off.

I disconnected the battery and that seems to fix the issue (everything off as it should be) until you lock the car! Then it all comes back on again. Strange.

Years ago when I bought my car(96' A6 TDIq) I had the same issue although it sorted itself out with and the only explanation would be that the car might had been standing for some time and some relay had got stuck. The symptoms were the same that the hazard light switch was glowing, blower fan would keep working and drain the battery(back then my car did not have AC yet, I retrofitted it some years later). So I dug into the problem since now I feel like home when browsing C4 wiring diagrams. I found that it should have something to do with the load reduction relay and with a little search I found UrS4boy's(greetings to him ) post in quattroworld. Try removing the relay "213" and let us know if that would be the case.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that relay didn't do anything - so I pulled all of them, still nothing.

Removing A3 - 30a green fuse from the relay box in the diagram below has turned off the hazard button, climate control, washers / wipers and returned as it should be with ignition off. Does this suggest a short in the 'El. Windows and Sunroof' circuit?

After doing some further reading apparently it could be the ignition barrel. I have inspected the lock and the white plastic piece at the start of the barrel does not move back across when the key is removed. Not sure if that is normal or not.

With the switch removed from the barrel, it should turn pretty freely from off (position 0) to the first position then it is sprung for the turn required to crank the engine, so it should be stiff(ish) to turn to position 2 and return to position 1 again itself, requiring you to turn it back to 0.

        Hope that makes sense.

You could try removing the ignition switch electrical connector to check for shorts elsewhere, if the fault goes away there's a good chance it's the switch (although not guaranteed).

Well, I went back out to try something else...

Put the 30a fuse back in, and problem solved. For the time being anyway.

Sure it will be back at some point though Can only guess some kind of short / ignition switch problem.

          Many thanks
