  • Bloody car!!!

Got an interesting, altho somewhat major problem with my electrics since driving last night...

Central locking isnt working on the key anymore... sounds simple enough at first, only it seems somewhat more major than this..... first main problem being that i can no longer get fuel in the car as the cover is locked shut!

When unlocking the drivers door on the key its the only lock to unlock, the interior lights come on, but they FLICKER LOTS!!! also can hear a clicking from behind the drivers side rear panel.... this then got worse... i turned on the ignition assuming that the clicking was the motor for the CL trying to work but couldnt, except that now i have lots more clicking, from a relay under the dash marked up as 12v 40a, so a hefty one, lights carry on flickering, car wont start either, but the voltmeter is staying on at constant 12v, so that ignition circuit is running fine.

I can only assume its an earth issue..... where on the other hand i have no idea!

It was all working fine..... then i drove few miles in the rain last night and back again, then the problems, so im guessing the water has caused some kind of issue maybe as nothing else has happened unless its just something failed at the same time???

Help is really needed as i just spent the last 2 hours looking with a torch etc lol

ref, gettin fuel in , have a look in the owners manual, theres a way of unlocking the petrol flap from iside the boot, cant remember how off the top of my head, can look in the morning though. Ref the alarm, have you taken the rear panel off to see what that clicking is?

ALso, before when locking the drivers door it would arm that Bosch Iris alarm thing, it doesnt do that anymore as the hazard switch doesnt flash like it does usually when armed, altho it did let off a long blast of the horn once for a few seconds before stopping again..... pretty sure the lights flickered when this happened too.

Think its gonna be all fun and games tomorrow after work!

If i remember correctly to unlock the fuel pump put your hand behind the rear waser bottle flap and then just pull the rod which locks the fuel cap back. I recon earths right but could all be down to the CL pump what year is your car?

Is the cover on the fuse box under the scuttle on and secure? I had lots of really wierd stuff going on once after rainwater got in to the fuses after i left the lid of the fuse box lose cos it was being a nightmare to get on. Once the box was dry itwas fine again.

I had problems with my alarm when the bonnet lift sensor was playing up it pretty much drained the battery and cause all sorts of electrical issues once i removed it and charged the battery everything was ok. Not sure why this bonnet lift sensor is needed, as if some one could quickly pop the bonnet to steal the car!
Anyway might be worth a look if you have one, the alarm specialist said all bonnet lift alarm sensors are crap!

fusebox fine, the Toad alarm that i use is operating fine as well.

Something a miss with the central locking and pos the mechanism behind the door panel as it wont arm the Bosch alarm that arms / disarms from the drivers lock.

But there are other electrical gremlins also, nothing has been touched or disturbed but i can only think that an earth has gone dodgy....

Both the earths under the dash (one each side) look totally fine, all connections are good. Battery earth is also perfectly fine.

Just have no idea what could suddenly cause this, as it must only be something small.

Possibly broken wiring between the door and the wing on the drivers side.
