    Dash board bulbs

    Hey guys,

Seen a few threads about dash backlighting but would just like to ask in my own thread exactly what type and quantity of bulbs that I'll need?

The plan is to remove the dash and change the lot; if you guys could supply links to reputable brands then that would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers,
    Grant

Thanks Greg! Am I right in assuming that the lamps for the back lighting are all the same colour?

Yes, they are all white in colour, but watch for the different wattages based on their location in the binacle.

Does that mean that I need to buy bulbs with different power ratings? Rather than all at 1.2W?

I think there's a thread about using LED type which will give off less heat and so save the "flaking" that the S2 dash's suffer from?

in my experience flaking has nothing to do with heat from the bulbs. All my clock gauge faces were perfect... put the car in storage... after 6 months the rev counter was completely fooked

.....that might suggest dampness in the car perhaps ?

                Anyone have a definitive answer?

The OEM ones on mine do not pull out of the holder, so based on Dave's advice, I've ordered these:-

                  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1820990345...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Should be here any day, so I'll report back when they arrive.

Does anyone happen to know of a source for the 0.8w 5mm capless bulbs found in the early dash switches? I can't seem to find these anywhere.

Thanks Andy; I did come across those Osram lamps when I googled for the style of lamp which Greg had recommended.

Guess I'll need to pull out the dash cluster and see what type I have before I order anything.

Correct about getting bayonet bulbs, I do believe there are two different wattages as well, but when you take the clocks out you will see easily.

If you do the autocheck you will find that the bulbs have a yellow and a red condom on them, which will need swapping over.

Parts cat is good for things like this:

Lists 1.2W and 2W versions of bulbs, grab the part number and you can search ebay and the likes for it:

                          http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...9040C&_sacat=0

                          and:

                          http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_od...9040A&_sacat=0

When I did mine, I just replaced the lot, figuring if some were blowing, the rest were going to be close.

Check application for your car, the above is a '91 CQ

A source for the 0.8w bulbs is tricky, but the part no is: 8A0919062

Bit of searching, these should do:

Say 0.9W, but that is at 14V, which I know our cars run at... but most auto bulbs are of course rated at 12V... so...

Maybe a motor factor can order them in , but I can't find them for sale on the internet.

If you search for 0.9W 14V bulb you do get hits, but they all have bayonet bases to them, could harvest the bulbs.... but be good to be able to get the proper ones? I seem to remember the bulbs were just push fit, and not bayonet?
