It's illuminated by the same kind of bulbs as the rest of the instrument cluster so take it out and replace the bulbs. Better to replace all of them as it's easy.

Sounds like a bulbs gone on the back of the clocks. 20 min job to take the clocks out and replace it.

You can take the instrument panel out without taking the wheel off. You will find the switch gear cover will probably get broken though.

Take your time and you should be okay. The hardest part is reaching behind the cluster to undo all the multi plugs before you can withdraw the cluster past the steering wheel. (note: you will have to rotate the cluster at an odd angle to get between the dashboard cowl and the steering wheel.)

              Good luck

              Cheers,

              Steve.

I've got no choice really, I have to leave the steering wheel in place. I've had enough of airbags for a lifetime without tempting fate even more
If not the airbag wheel, easy enough job to remove it for your first attempt at clocks removal. Depress horn push and turn anticlock wise, undo nut underneath with 24mm socket and pull the wheel off.
Hardest thing is as Steve says, manouvering the clocks around so you can get to the multiplugs behind, don't forget to release the clips on top of the multiplugs before trying to pull them off.
One thing to mention though, IIRC the probs people have had with the dial faces peeling away, is all down to incorrect wattage bulbs being fitted at some point. Again IIRC the dial illumination and the clock bulbs are 1.1w whilst the turn signals and warning lamps in the centre are 1.2w and 2.0w
As Porkis said, best to change them all in one go.
