    Smoking

Only noticed it the last two days with the hot weather. When I get on boost when it is going up normally runs about 1.8 running 1.9 at the moment peak.

But it started smoking a bit in the hot weather. Im going to do an oil change this week and see if that helps.

Oil temps were about 100 deg and water about 90 in weather.

Any ideas what it could be?

Wrong grade of oil, or valve stem seals? Definitely not rings / bores, never come accross an S2 with worn bores yet.

Could also be a blocked breather.

oil is manufactures spec, gonna change it this week, gonna take the plugs out now to see if theres any residue on them, if not i suppose it could be the turbo seals too. shouldn't be valve stem seals as its only done 30000 since i rebuilt the engine.

Checked the oil aswell, its used about a litre this week which is really unusual since its hardly used any before now. Checked the intake pipe but theres no oil residue on there and also the breather valve but not had a chance to check the rest of the breather system as of yet. Begining to wonder whether its a good idea to get a turbo rebuild done and how i can go about checking the turbo?.

Looks like no.4 cylinder is burning some oil dude. It wont be turbo as ALL the plugs would be coated. Might be a VSOS, or a broken ring?? Maybe. Difficult to say really.

@Delta, the 5 cyl block does end up with bore wear. Mine was worn when i built the engine, luckily not enough to need boring. some of the well known tuners claim that you cant get away with re-ringing this engines as they still burn oil.

Ah, I've learnt something new, though I've never seen an S2 with worn bores. Still, your car does get used proper! And your gearboxes, still, that's what 450+ horses does.

My engine had a broken top ring on cyl2 when I got it. I had to rebuild the engine because of other purposes (collision damage on the block) and found this out. The prev owner probably was changing #2 spark plug quite frequently as there was spares in the glove box and the plug lead cover was missing
Needless to say the #2 valves were... bad.

ah S**t. Whats a VSOS? Looks like it might be a head off job? Sods law that I sold the pug last week, could do with it now! any other checks I can do? Will take it for a drive again later and see if it is the same with the plugs then.

It does seem to be running quite hot at the moment though. but it is 22 here at the moment which is higher than usual

LOL, cheers mate. Just realised VSOS, valve stem oil seals. Having a blonde moment. The bad news is that it has used about 1/2 litre of oil today. Gonna get a compression test done on it later to check the bottom end and see where I am at. And get my bike out tommorow to come to work on, gonna be knackered!!

will continue the saga later. When I get back gonna take the PCV system apart and check for blockages. I took the PCV valve out yesterday and I had only changed that about 2 months ago so it is unlikely to be that piece but I need to check the flame arrestor and the rest of the PCV pipe work.

Does she blow oil on boost, at idle, on overrun or just all the time ?

Gotta agree with Tom that its not going to be turbo seals if oil is only apparent in one cylinder. For the same reason, its not a PCV fault either.

If the oil burning is in one cylinder only then its VSOS or piston rings.

IIRC - A compression test will only determine the state of the compression rings - not the oil control rings. However it is worth doing to see the range of results. Do it at full throttle with all plugs out of a cold engine (CMP disconnected to prevent any HT being generated) for consistent results.

Maybe a wee inspection camera down the plughole will see evidence of oil ingress in the bores. Does your Dad have such a toy ?
